Capt. Meritage

You are a war-hardened WWI vet US Navy Captain.  It was bad enough that when you got back from war that women could vote, but the biggest blow came at having prohibition.  You follow most laws/rules civilly, but you can't say no to a good drink.  It also helps you deal with your wife's new-found interest in silly fads.  She stayed true to you through the war, so you can true to her through this... you hope.

More background

Your reasons for being here are twofold – you like the drinks from the speakeasy here at the Eaton and you also want to hear this Mr. J. Meister speak.  He’s got some good ideas about getting rid of prohibition.

You’ve never been here before, but your wife seems to recognize some.

What has happened

Last night, you enjoyed the drinks and then went to bed relatively early.  Your wife stayed behind to “enjoy the music”, but you let her know you expected her back soon especially with the way some of the other men were looking at her.

Today you playing a game of Mahjong and later Go to keep your wits while your wife took a nap.

You heard the scream around 1400 and when you went to your room to check on your wife, she was gone.  Shortly after she was escorted to her room by Manager Merlot and Mr. Blanc.  Apparently she had a fainting spell in the basement after finding a dead body.  She avoided your questions for most of the day as she rested in bed.

Advice

You need to find out what your wife was doing in the basement (stroll to reduce the cabin fever?).  You also are very worried about this crime and, like others, want to find out who the victum was and who did it.  You haven’t heard anything about Mr. Meister – could it have been him?   Probably makes sense to meet with everyone you should already have met, too.  Mr. Blanc and Merlot you saw the previous evening.
